Quite amazing to read of President Bush's comment that those who are publicly critizing the possible Supreme Court nominee, Alberto Gonzales, should tone down their rhetoric. The president considers Alberto a personal friend, of course, and we are so happy for both of them. But still, we must exercise our freedom of speech and make one thing perfectly clear: we pray that nobody is nominated for the vacancy on the Supreme Court who is at all in favor of either abortion or "settled law," which is how so many of Bush's friends describe Roe v. Wade/Doe v. Bolton.
What that means, in plain English, is … just say no to Alberto.
