“The harvesting of embryonic human cells is unnecessary,” said Father Joseph Howard, director of the American Bioethics Advisory Commission (a division of American Life League).
“The methodologies of the practitioners who would base progress on the destruction of innocent human life are thoroughly undercut by advancements in adult bone-marrow cells that achieve the same scientific ends but do not destroy innocent human life. We have utilitarianism on the one hand, and real science on the other,” he said. “Death on the one hand, and respect for life on the other.”
Father Howard’s remarks followed early reports of developing adult bone marrow cells into replacement cells for victims of Parkinson’s disease.
“Not only is embryonic stem cell research unnecessary, it is unethical,” Father Howard said. “In fact, it is a false science; it is utilitarianism — an ideology — and it must stop.”
Father Howard urged members of Congress to support legislation completely banning embryonic stem cell research in both private and public sectors.
