What is fetal tissue harvesting?
Fetal tissue harvesting involves the procurement of organs, tissue or external body parts from aborted babies for use in research, testing and experimentation.
The process: University A, the customer, is performing research on vaccines. They contact a body part wholesaler, Company B (i.e. the Anatomic Gift Foundation or Opening Lines), and place an order. The order specifies which body parts are required-quantity, quality, mailing address and shipping directions (i.e. flash frozen immediately following abortion). The order is delivered to the B Company rep stationed at Abortion Clinic C. The rep tells the abortionist which parts are needed to fill the orders. After the abortionist performs an abortion, he or she delivers the dead baby to Company B’s rep. The rep dissects the baby to harvest the required eyes, ears, lungs, brain, etc., and ships them to the customer (University A).
Because it is against federal law to sell human tissue or body parts, wholesale companies and clinics involved in the process use alternative terminology. The customer (University A) does not pay directly for the body parts. Instead, customers pay “service fees” that cover the “retrieval” and delivery of the parts. Neither does Company B pay the abortion clinic directly for the body parts. The clinics “donate” the tissue to Company B and charge the company a “site fee.” This “site fee” allows the wholesaler to station a representative at the clinic to directly oversee the fetal tissue harvesting process.
Customers for this business include the National Institutes of Health, the Environmental Protection Agency, Johns Hopkins University, the Cancer Research Institute, the New England Regional Primate Center and SmithKline Pharmaceuticals, among others.
