Pro-Life This Week – February 7, 2020

Week in Review – President Trump Calls for a Ban on Late-Term Abortions; Spokane Councilwoman Proposes Law to Ban Protesters from Planned Parenthood

President Donald Trump’s State of the Union was broadcasted everywhere Tuesday night, February 4. During his speech, President Trump reminded his listeners and American citizens that “every human life is a sacred gift from God!”

The president called attention to two special guests in the audience—Ellie Schneider and her mother. Ellie was born at 21 weeks in 2017, and was one of the earliest premature babies to ever survive. Ellie is now a healthy two-year-old.

President Trump used Ellie’s survival to segue into a request for Congress “to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies.”

“Whether we are Republican, Democrat, or Independent, surely we must all agree that every human life is a sacred gift from God!” stated President Trump.

This comes after President Trump was the first president to ever attend the National March for Life in Washington, DC.

This week, it was reported that a Spokane, WA, city councilwoman has drafted a law that would prohibit pro-lifers from protesting outside Planned Parenthood facilities. Lori Kinnear has proposed legislation that would “make it illegal for someone to intentionally interfere with access to a health care facility, or its normal day-to-day operations.”

This would prohibit any protest that Planned Parenthood deems “disrupting,” though the councilwoman claims it would not prohibit legal picketing.

The city council is set to vote on the ordinance on March 2, 2020.

ALL in the News – ALL Calls on Catholic Parishes to Pray for an End to Abortion

On Monday, February 3, in partnership with Dennis Howard and The Movement for a Better America, American Life League president Judie Brown released a statement with a “call to action” for all parishes in America.

Brown called on all parishes in America to include a prayer for the women and babies at risk for abortion each week in the Prayers of the Faithful at Sunday Mass. This simple prayer could affect thousands of women and babies each week.

On February 5, Brown sent a statement to Renew America regarding a pro-abortion doctor who is scheduled to speak at a Catholic church in Los Angeles. This statement was also featured in a Church Militant article.

Judie’s weekly commentaries continue to be featured as a column on Renew America

Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Death is a weekly talk-radio program on the Radio Maria USA network. The show can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time) and is repeated on Saturdays (10 PM).

Video of the Week – Is the President REALLY Pro-Life?

Is President Trump patronizing pro-life advocates for votes? Is he really pro-life, as the president claims?

Fr. Jonathan Meyer of All Saints Parish in Washington, DC, explores this question in an impactful homily given on January 26, 2020.

Action Item of the Week – Contact your US Senators NOW about S-2080!

Senate Bill S-2080, the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act, which deals with Palliative Care and Education as part of America’s health care system is fatally flawed.

Ask your senators to vote NO on S-2080!

To find out who your senators are and how to contact them, go to:

https://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Background (the following information is provided by The Healthcare Advocacy and Leadership Organization (HALO):

The Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA)—

S-2080—would extend palliative care provided by hospice to non-dying patients, use our federal tax dollars to fund medical education for this purpose, and fund the “selling” of palliative care to the public. Hospice, a palliative care program, is plagued by Medicare fraud and poor quality care leading to serious harm and deaths.

IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED

This legislation has already passed the House of Representatives on a voice vote. The last chance to defeat it in Congress is in the Senate.

There are at least a dozen normally pro-life members of the Senate who have supported this bill. In addition to your own senators, please contact these senators and ask them to withdraw their support. Their contact information is provided here.

“Opposing PCHETA Talking Points” are available here. When emailing the senators or their staff, you may wish to use one or several of these talking points to argue against the bill.

We sincerely thank you in advance for taking action to defeat the PCHETA, which if passed will endanger the lives of many more vulnerable patients. — HALO

Pro-life Social Media – Pro-Life Activism in Political Cartoons

Illustrator Pat Cross has been providing thought-provoking political cartoons for half a decade. His penchant for exposing the hypocrisy of abortion advocacy makes his pen an effective weapon against the culture of death. Below is a collection of Cross’ pro-life cartoons from 2019.
