The Gospel of John relates these words from the exchange between Christ and Pontius Pilate: “Jesus answered, ‘You say I am a king. For this I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.’ Pilate said to him, ‘What is truth?’”
Like Pilate, whether by conscious choice or otherwise, many people today will jump through hoops rather than admit that truth exists. This is reflected in the results of a recent study revealing that among people categorized as Gen Z, 54% of those who have abandoned their faith are women and 46% are men. But the numbers are not the real story.
If one is to believe it, a majority of women say that most churches do not treat men and women equally. This is apparently the result of ignorance to a fundamental truth that God created men and women as equals.
Modern soothsayers want none of that! Journalist Madalaine Elhabbal asserts that statistically most women are more educated and support the right to abort their children. Apparently this is the end result of skewed indoctrination by social scientists who harp on the “wrongness” of categorizing men and women as two different genders. Today far too many people have the mistaken idea that one’s biological identity as a man or a woman is ambiguous, a mere accident of nature.
So it is that the fundamental crisis is not about gender or abortion or contraception. It is about an individual’s conscious decision to deny the truths of nature. A human being has a free will, and he or she can choose good or evil. So when most people choose to reject a personal decision to nurture their faith in God, the result is an abandonment of truth.
If this were not so, America’s laws and judicial opinions would not have resulted in the stifling aroma of evil that masquerades as freedom, when it is honestly a national agreement to be enslaved by error.
This is why so many call abortion an issue and disregard the fact that every abortion is an act that kills a human being. This is why the Human Life Protection Amendment proposed by pro-life Floridians went down in defeat. It is also why, in our nation, women who live to tell the tale of their horrific experiences in being trafficked for sex also admit to experiencing forced abortions.
Lest we confine our facts to the first days of life, let us not forget that in California lawmakers are working to expand the definition of those who can seek to take their own lives by assisted suicide.
Dr. Joel Zivot, an anti-life university professor, recently said, “The death penalty is not the same as assisted dying, of course. Executions are meant to be punishment; euthanasia is about relief from suffering.” He continued, “Yet for both euthanasia and executions, paralytic drugs are used. These drugs, given in high enough doses, mean that a patient cannot move a muscle, cannot express any outward or visible sign of pain. But that doesn’t mean that he or she is free from suffering.”
In other words, the dastardly fact is that when man usurps the power of God unto himself, he is denying the truth, practicing imposed killing on innocents prior to birth, and rejecting the truth that one’s failing health provides him or her with an opportunity to encounter the Lord and His immutable truth anew.
We are living in an age when large factions want to reject the truth, but the infallible truth will ever be that Jesus Christ is the cornerstone; He is Truth.
