Week in Review – United States Senators are standing up against the abortion industry.
This week, 20 Republican senators sent a letter to FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn asking that he take a serious look at the use of the Abortion Pill in the United States—with an eye towards declaring the pill (Mifeprex) an “imminent hazard to the public health,” a designation that would ban the drug in the US and conceivably limit abortions across the country.
In support of their request, the letter points out the need for a “serious examination of the ethical practices and FDA compliance of clinical trials like the TelAbortion project conducted by Gynuity—a research group associated with abortion giant Planned Parenthood. Gynuity’s direct-to-consumer abortion pill by mail experiment has been going on for nearly five years and has now expanded to 13 states. In addition to placing the lives of American women and children at risk by offering their clinical study to girls as young as ten years old, they use women in Burkina Faso in their second trimester as research subjects, despite the high risk of infection and uterine rupture—this is also a region where emergency services and blood products for transfusions are in short supply. We find these practices and uses of human subjects to be highly suspect, and we ask the FDA take immediate steps to review these activities.”
The senators pointed out in their letter that “As these examples prove, it is by now nakedly obvious that the abortion industry and its allies in the media, billionaire philanthropic circles, and special interest groups, have wanted an unregulated and demedicalized abortion pill since the moment the FDA first approved it in 2000. As you may further know, the Clinton administration approved this lethal drug under pressure from these same groups and under a highly politicized approval process. We believe this deadly pill should never have been approved, yet the abortion industry was politically rewarded with an accelerated approval process normally reserved for high-risk drugs that address life-threatening illnesses like AIDS. As you are surely aware, pregnancy is not a life-threatening illness, and the abortion pill does not cure or prevent any disease. Nevertheless, this pill that is specifically designed and intended to kill preborn children was raced to the market, with devastating consequences.”
It is clear that there is going on, right now, in the United States, a major effort to make abortion a “do-it-yourself” procedure, despite the fact that it kills a living human being and is a danger to the mothers who use it. The abortion industry has witnessed the decline in the number of surgical abortions in this country and is clearly alarmed that more babies are escaping the womb alive. They see the Abortion Pill as the way to exterminate more babies—especially those from minority communities. We encourage you to read the full letter and then thank the 20 senators that signed it.
In other news this week, Church Militant published a story about television stations in California refusing to run paid advertisements whose purpose is “to find one or more women to join a class action lawsuit against Planned Parenthood over the sales of aborted babies’ body parts.” Court testimonies and recorded under-oath depositions have revealed the insidious nature of Planned Parenthood’s baby body parts business in California and elsewhere. Yet, the television media is throwing roadblocks in the way of a resolution for the women who were lied to.

Action Item of the Week – National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children (9/12/2020)
Pro-life Americans will honor the gravesites of our aborted brothers and sisters on the 8th annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Solemn prayer vigils will be held at these gravesites and at dozens of other sites dedicated in memory of aborted children.
The first Day of Remembrance was observed in September 2013, with more than a hundred memorial services held all over the country. There are currently 159 memorial services scheduled for this year’s Day of Remembrance, Saturday, September 12.
When people become truly aware of the reality of abortion, they can more easily cut through the lies by which some try to justify it and the natural apathy to which human nature is inclined. Even pro-life people are thrust into a higher level of commitment and activism.
Touching this reality happens in various ways: hearing a vivid description of the procedure, seeing diagrams of it or images of aborted children, hearing a woman’s personal testimony of regret over her abortion.
This impact, whereby abortion no longer remains an abstraction, can be brought to an even more profound level when experienced during an event, such as the funeral for an aborted baby.
Tens of thousands of these children have been retrieved and buried at gravesites across our country. The stories of how they were killed, how they were found, and how they were buried, along with the pictures and videos that document those events, are powerful tools to awaken the consciences of our fellow citizens.
But while a funeral and burial for an aborted baby may be a relatively rare event, the opportunity to visit the burial places and recall how those children got there does not have to be rare—in fact, it shouldn’t be.
Pro-lifers should be visiting these gravesites—and other memorial sites dedicated to aborted babies—as a regular part of their pro-life witness. That’s what the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children is all about.
By participating in the National Day of Remembrance, visiting these solemn memorial places at other times of the year, and spreading the word about this prayer campaign, you are helping to humanize our aborted brothers and sisters and deepening your own commitment to ending the injustice of abortion.

Bishop Strickland of Tyler, Texas, wields Twitter like a sword. In a post that cuts right to the matter of abortion violence, Bishop Strickland suggested that if preborn babies had one thing to worry about, it wouldn’t be COVID.
