Pro-Life This Week – August 14, 2020

Week in Review – Kamala Harris running for vice-president

Major news in the pro-life community this week was the announcement by presumed Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden that he had selected California senator Kamala Harris to be his running mate. Once approved at next week’s convention, Harris will be the party’s candidate for vice-president of the United States.

Harris is in her first term as a US senator, but she has already established herself as a radical pro-abortion congresswoman. Among her anti-life activities are:

  • Senator Harris believes pro-life people should not have a voice in the public square. In November 2018, Harris criticized Brian Buescher, a Catholic federal district court nominee from Nebraska, about his affiliation with the Knights of Columbus, simply because the organization was Catholic.
  • Senator Harris supports using the power of the Federal government to overturn hundreds of laws in the states that protect the preborn and their mothers. These laws include state taxpayer funding of abortion and stronger oversight of abortionists and abortion facilities.
  • Senator Harris’ policies are out of touch with even most pro-abortion Americans. She supports radical anti-life. She voted to refuse protections for babies born alive after an abortion. She has also voted in support of late-term abortions.

Prior to her election to the United States Senate, Harris was the attorney general for the state of California. In 2015, Harris was in her second term as attorney general and was planning to run in 2016 for a US Senate seat being vacated by Barbra Boxer. In July of 2015, David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress began publicly releasing undercover videos of racist Planned Parenthood affiliates in California engaging in the illegal sale of baby body parts. As more and more videos were released, Planned Parenthood understandably became very disturbed.

According to court documents, Harris had a secret in-person meeting with Planned Parenthood executives in Los Angeles. After the meeting, Harris refused to launch an investigation against Planned Parenthood. Instead, she began investigating CMP. Two weeks later, Daleiden’s apartment was raided by the California Department of Justice. There has ensued years of charges, trials, decisions, and appeals. Daleiden and his colleagues have been ordered to pay millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood and still face unwarranted criminal charges.

Meanwhile, Harris won her senate election. During the election, the Los Angeles Times revealed that “Her campaign website includes a page that asked supporters to sign a petition ‘to defend Planned Parenthood.’” Remember, this was at the time that serious allegations were being made against racist Planned Parenthood—allegations that her office should have been investigating.

Planned Parenthood celebrated Harris’ election to the senate—pointing out that she was “a long-time champion of Planned Parenthood in California.” After the announcement of her selection to be part of a Biden-Harris ticket, Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said: “Planned Parenthood Action Fund is thrilled to congratulate Senator Kamala Harris on her nomination to be vice president on the Democratic presidential ticket … Everything is on the line in November, which is why Planned Parenthood Action Fund members are committed to electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the two highest offices in the land.”

In a press release issued just minutes after the announcement of Harris’ appointment to the Democrat ticket, Judie Brown, president of American Life League, observed: “With the announcement of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden’s running mate, we now have the most pro-abortion ticket in American history.”

Action Item of the Week – National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children (9/12/2020)

Pro-life Americans will honor the gravesites of our aborted brothers and sisters on the 8th annual National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children on Saturday, September 12, 2020. Solemn prayer vigils will be held at thesegravesites and at dozens of other sites dedicated in memory of aborted children.

The first Day of Remembrance was observed in September 2013, with more than a hundred memorial services held all over the country. There are currently 115 memorial services scheduled for this year’s Day of Remembrance, Saturday, September 12.

When people become truly aware of the reality of abortion, they can more easily cut through the lies by which some try to justify it, and the natural apathy to which human nature is inclined. Even pro-life people are thrust into a higher level of commitment and activism.

Touching this reality happens in various ways: hearing a vivid description of the procedure, seeing diagrams of it or images of aborted children, hearing a woman’s personal testimony of regret over her abortion.

This impact, whereby abortion no longer remains an abstraction, can be brought to an even more profound level when experienced during an event, such as the funeral for an aborted baby.

Tens of thousands of these children have been retrieved and buried at gravesites across our country. The stories of how they were killed, how they were found, and how they were buried, along with the pictures and videos that document those events, are powerful tools to awaken the consciences of our fellow citizens.

But while a funeral and burial for an aborted baby may be a relatively rare event, the opportunity to visit the burial places and recall how those children got there does not have to be rare—in fact, it shouldn’t be.

Pro-lifers should be visiting these gravesites—and other memorial sites dedicated to aborted babies—as a regular part of their pro-life witness. That’s what the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children is all about.

By participating in the National Day of Remembrance, visiting these solemn memorial places at other times of the year, and spreading the word about this prayer campaign, you are helping to humanize our aborted brothers and sisters and deepening your own commitment to ending the injustice of abortion.

Pro-life Social Media – Catholic Twitter Hasn’t Forgotten Kamala’s Anti-Catholicism

News that Kamala Harris was picked to be Joe Biden’s running mate didn’t impress pro-life advocates. Less impressed were practicing Catholics who are familiar with Harris’ brand of anti-Catholicism.

As member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Harris proposed an anti-Catholic litmus test when asking a judicial candidate about his involvement with the Knights of Columbus. Harris also has the reputation of failing to prosecute clergy sex crimes on her watch and using her power as the California Attorney General to block a deal to rescue Catholic hospitals

What a lovely person, this Kamala Harris.

Well, every sensible, practicing Catholic should.

EVERY priest should be protecting the Eucharist in the event Joe Biden shows up at that priest’s church.
