The United States is confronting a moral crisis. And it can be fairly said that the Catholic leadership in this nation is responsible for much of it.
What in the world would cause us to say such an outrageous thing? Well, let’s look at the facts.
New York governor Andrew Cuomo says he is Catholic, but he has okayed infanticide. This new law provides for the killing of babies through birth. The law
removes abortion from the definition of homicide and New York’s criminal code altogether. Previously, New York law treated the murder of an unborn child in its the third trimester as a felony offense punishable by up to seven years in prison.
The RHA changes that. Instead, abortion will be regulated under public health law and a variety of medical professionals, not just licensed physicians, will be allowed to perform abortions without penalty.
Governor Cuomo celebrated this atrocity!
What were the actions from the bishops of New York? Nothing meaningful. No denial of Holy Communion, no excommunication. CRICKETS!
While some have reported that Cuomo does not receive Holy Communion, the point is that the cult of abortion has taken over “one of America’s two great political parties and infects major federal and state office-holders.” And so “a single episode of that evil, the Cuomo case, can erupt like a festering boil and a Dolan comes to represent heterodox prelates everywhere.”
Yes, and we might add that the festering boil has replicated itself in many cases! For example, California Speaker of the House in Congress, “Catholic” Nancy Pelosi, never met an abortion she could not approve. Yet none of the nation’s bishops has acted definitively to make sure she is denied the body of Christ no matter where she attends Mass.
Thus, Pelosi persists in insulting Christ by her actions and words!
In another example, Virginia’s Catholic bishops were “dismayed” at Senator Kaine’s support of infanticide, yet they failed to prohibit him from receiving the body of Christ until he repents of his support for killing babies prior to birth.
So, as we enter the season of Lent, we must vow to pray for our bishops and for all those in elected office who pretend to be people of faith while they grovel at the feet of the abortion cartel. Killing babies is a heinous evil; prayer and fasting can drive it out.

Worldly power cannot overcome Christ and His truth. Recall these words of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger in the meditations on the Stations of the Cross as Christ takes up His cross:
Jesus, condemned as an imposter king, is mocked, but this very mockery lays bare a painful truth. How often are the symbols of power, borne by the great ones of this world, an affront to truth, to justice and to the dignity of man! How many times are their pomps and their lofty words nothing but grandiose lies, a parody of their solemn obligation to serve the common good! It is because Jesus is mocked and wears the crown of suffering that he appears as the true King. His scepter is justice (cf. Psalm 45:7). The price of justice in this world is suffering: Jesus, the true King, does not reign through violence, but through a love which suffers for us and with us. He takes up the Cross, our cross, the burden of being human, the burden of the world. And so he goes before us and points out to us the way which leads to true life.
Lord Jesus hear us. Help us to make this Lent a time when we face our challenges in defense of Your babies and walk with You, praying for an end to the slaughter!
