Pro-Life This Week – November 30, 2018

Week in Review – Politics, Salaries, and Primary Care

The week began with a pro-life victory in the last remaining election of US senators. When no candidate received 50 percent of the vote in the November 6 general election in Mississippi, the state scheduled a run-off election for November 27. That run-off was between Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democrat Mike Espy. Planned Parenthood has given incumbent Hyde-Smith a 0% rating for her votes in the Senate. Espy claimed to be against abortion during his campaign, but the pro-life SBA List did a lot of work to educate voters of Espy’s pro-abortion record when he was in the House of Representatives. On Tuesday, Hyde-Smith won 54%-46%. Hyde-Smith’s victory means that Republicans will have a 53-47 advantage in the Senate. This will allow the Republicans to move to confirm more conservative justices even if Senator Murkowski and Senator Collins disapprove.

Also this week, American Life League released our latest report on the outrageous salaries paid by Planned Parenthood and its affiliates to its CEOs. According to official government documents, PPFA and each of its 56 affiliates pays the CEOs an average of $255,523. A person earning that salary would be in the top five percent of wage earners in the country. Of course, Planned Parenthood is this “benevolent organization helping poor women.” Why shouldn’t its CEOs get rich on the backs of its poor customers? You can read the full report here.

Although Dr. Leana Wen has only been president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America for 18 days, there are some things emerging from Planned Parenthood that point to changes that have been taking place within the organization. One of the consistent proclamations by Wen in the last two weeks has been: “As president, I will also look to expand our care, our services and our impact.” Well, some of those changes have been going on behind the scenes for a year or two and may even be the reason Cecile Richards left and Dr. Wen was hired.

The most public of those changes is the Planned Parenthood slowly growing focus on primary care. We don’t know enough yet to speculate on the motives behind this thrust by Planned Parenthood, but there clearly is something to it. Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida is offering primary care services at its Sarasota facility. Planned Parenthood of Southern New England is also offering some primary care at its locations in Meriden, New London, and Waterbury facilities in Connecticut and its Providence (RI) facility. Planned Parenthood of Greater Northwest and the Hawaiian Islands is offering primary care at its Boise (ID) location as well as its Bellevue, Federal Way, and Lynnwood facilities in the state of Washington. The specific services at each location vary, but they are all being designated by Planned Parenthood as “primary care.”

The most concerted effort is happening in California, where Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties has created a new entity—Melody Women’s Health. On its website, Melody proclaims: “ . . . we believe that young women should have access to high-quality, comprehensive care from a provider they trust. Since we are experts in young women’s reproductive health, we believe patients deserve that same level of expertise and understanding in their primary care provider. That’s why we opened Melody Women’s Health. Now you will be able to get all of the basic care you need from the people you know and trust at Planned Parenthood.” Melody currently operates at six Planned Parenthood offices in California—Anaheim, Mission Viejo, San Bernardino, Santa Ana, Upland, and Westminster.

ALL in the News – Confronting the culture and Planned Parenthood CEO Report

This week we call your attention to two of Judie Brown’s commentaries: Is the Press the Enemy of the People? and “Abortion on Decline in the US”; Fake News!. Both are insightful looks at our culture of death and the need for pro-life action.

This week, STOPP released the 2018 Report on Planned Parenthood CEO Compensation.

Jim Sedlak published two articles: The first was the highlights from the CEO report. The second was a commentary on the fact that one PP affiliate now takes in over $100 million a year (64% from taxpayer money).

Jim Sedlak’s Pro-Life Activism from Creation to Deathis a weekly talk-radio program on the Radio Maria USA network. It can be heard live every Friday at noon (Eastern Time) and is repeated on Saturdays (10 PM) and Mondays (10 PM).

Video of the Week – Planned Parenthood Hits Record Income

Action Item of the Week – 29th Annual National Night of Prayer for Life

Uniting the Feast of the Immaculate Conception with the Feast of St. Juan Diego

It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception in 1531 (then celebrated on December 9th), that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the Unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges these feasts. Last year we celebrated the 100th anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima who appeared to the three children in 1917. The Fatima message continues to be most relevant today! All nations of the world are invited to participate as we ask Our Blessed Mother to protect Life and the Family, renew the Church, and establish Peace.

December 8th (Saturday) at 9 PM (Eastern) to 1 AM Dec. 9th (Sunday).

We ask each parish to join in praying on this holy occasion.

During the HOUR OF UNITY, 12 Midnight – 1AM EST, we will be united in churches across the country in prayer to end abortion and to restore God’s blessings of Life and Religious Liberty in America.

The National Night of Prayer for Life includes adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the holy Rosary, prayer to St. Michael, silent prayer and hymns. Contact your local priests, Pro-Life Organizations, Knights of Columbus, and all parish groups and inform your friends and family of this Life-Saving event.

Pro-life Social Media – “This is sick”; Abortion Group Shares Worst Cake Ever

Abortion advocacy group tweets photo of a cake that no one in his or her right mind would ever want to eat.

In case you missed it, November 26thwas National Cake Day. Yeah, we missed it, too, but the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL) didn’t. It sent out a cake-tweet celebrating the dessert most often associated with the thing NARAL is good at preventing—birthdays.

You know how babies love eating cake? Well, NARAL’s undertaking isn’t one of them. NARAL’s cake proposes a message that killing babies is healthcare.

Maybe someone can fix NARAL’s cake.

Better.
