Pro-Life This Week – September 20, 2019

Week in Review – 2,246 aborted babies; CMP Update; New abortion numbers

In grisly news this week, the family of abortionist Ulrich Klopfer called police. After Klopfer died on September 3, his family was going through his belongings at his home when they discovered 2,246 “medically preserved” aborted babies found stored on his property in Illinois. The discovery was reported to the authorities and the remains were collected by the county coroner. The Will County Sheriff’s Office has stated that there is no evidence that abortions were done on Klopfer’s property. The sheriff said no further statements will be made until the investigation is over.

Cheryl Sullenger of Operation Rescue stated, “Klopfer was an unsavory character who operated three abortion facilities in Fort Wayne, Gary, and South Bend, Indiana, at the peak of his career. His clinics were repeatedly cited for failing to pass heath inspections. Klopfer’s Indiana medical license was suspended in 2016 for failing to report suspected child sex abuse on a 13-year old, but gave abortions to little girls as young as 10 who were brought to him for abortions. After his last abortion clinic closed in 2016, Klopfer apparently moved to an unincorporated area of Wills County, Illinois.”

Once news of the discovery of the bodies began to spread, a number of pro-life groups, funeral homes, and churches in both Indiana and Illinois were quick to offer support and stated their willingness to provide burials for the aborted children. We will keep you updated as this develops.

The preliminary hearings in a courtroom California, where a judge will evaluate the 14 criminal charges against the Center for Medical Progress’ undercover journalists, wound down this week. We have been reading reports from both pro-life and pro-abortion sources and, as you can imagine, the two sides present completely different analyses of the proceedings. It is clear that David Daleiden did present details of all the steps he took—including discussing his plan with three different California law firms—to make sure that what he intended to do was within California law. He also showed videos in the court demonstrating how any member of the public could just walk into exhibit rooms where some of the videos were recorded and how others took place in public spaces. Based on what we’ve read and what we’ve heard from people who were sitting in the courtroom, a just decision would be to dismiss all charges. However, this is a California judge ruling on a case started by the Obama Justice Department and moved forward by a state attorney general who is now a United States senator. Please pray that the judge issues a just decision.

Finally, this week, the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute released their latest numbers on how many surgical and medical abortions occur yearly in the United States. They estimate that 862,000 medical and surgical abortions took place in 2017. This works out, of course, to 71,833 a month, 16,577 a week, 2,362 a day, 98 an hour, and five babies every three minutes.

We need to always remember that when Guttmacher and the media speak about abortions, they only consider medical and surgical abortions. They do not consider the millions of babies who die because they can’t implant in a uterine lining that has been thinned by contraceptives (i.e., chemical abortions) or the millions more who die in IVF labs (i.e., clinical abortions)

There is a lot of hype in the media that 862,000 is the lowest number since 1973 (when the estimated annual count was 744,600). Although that is a true statement, how can we be anything but upset about killing five babies every three minutes through medical and surgical abortions?

Action Item of the Week – Join Prayer and Fasting effort for Amazonian Synod

Attention, all Catholics!

The Amazonian Synod will begin on October 6, 2019. It is formally titled “New Paths for the Church and for an Integral Ecology.” According to published reports, the October 6-27 synod will draw some 300 Catholic leaders from the Pan-Amazonian region to discuss issues including the rights of indigenous populations, land rights, migration, corruption, the Church’s missionary efforts in the area, local liturgy and sustainable development.

The National Catholic Register reports that Cardinal Raymond Burke and Bishop Athanasius Schneider have issued an eight-page declaration warning against six “serious theological errors and heresies” they say are contained in the Amazonian Synod working document. They are calling on the faithful to pray and fast to prevent such errors being approved. They propose that clergy and laity “pray daily at least one decade of the Holy Rosary and to fast once a week” for such intentions from now until October 26.

You are encouraged to join in this prayer and fasting effort, asking God and our Blessed Mother prevent the “serious theological errors and heresies” from being approved at the Amazonian Synod.

Through the centuries, the Catholic Church has faced many trying times. It appears that the 21stcentury is shaping up as one of those times. When our faithful leaders, Cardinal Burke and Bishop Schneider, ask us to pray for a specific purpose to protect the Church, we need to take heed. Please join with millions of Catholics around the world and pray and fast, asking that the participants of the Amazonian Synod will allow themselves to be led by the Holy Spirit and make the right choices for our Church.

Pro-life Social Media – Former Planned Parenthood President Strikes Back at Organization on Twitter

Parting ways with the nation’s largest abortion provider less than a year after it hired you isn’t likely to be an amicable split. Leana Wen wanted Planned Parenthood to be less “abortion-y.” Her bosses didn’t agree.

And thus began a break-up, with Wen writing a confidential letter to Planned Parenthood’s board, then someone had the idea to leak it to the New York Times

“Now, [Planned Parenthood’s board] refuse[s] to honor my employment contract unless I agree to a gag clause.”

What? Planned Parenthood wants to gag a former employee? Aren’t gag orders ‘dangerous’?

Neither do we. Wen is still an advocate for killing kids before they’re born.
