USCCB a Member of Gay 'Marriage,' Pro-Abortion Coalition
Washington, DC (08 February 2010) – Inside Catholic’s Deal Hudson revealed today that the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is a member of the pro-abortion, pro-same-sex 'marriage' organization called the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights (LCCHR).
Members of the LCCHR must pay annual dues depending on the size of the group ($1,000 minimum).
Last week, the Reform CCHD Now coalition released information on the USCCB’s ties with the pro-abortion, pro-same sex marriage Center for Community Change. Later in the week, the coalition discovered pro-abortion and pro-same sex marriage speakers were invited to participate in the USCCB’s “Catholic Social Ministry Gathering.”
Hudson’s article details various publications and official endorsements from the LCCHR which support same-sex marriage and so-called reproductive “rights.” Hudson also points out that if the USCCB is a dues-paying member, the LCCHR’s lobbying efforts could be seen as "representing the Catholic bishops.”
Last fall, American Life League joined the Reform CCHD Now coalition after Bellarmine Veritas Ministry released a report exposing several USCCB grantees who actively promoted an abortion and same-sex marriage “rights” agenda.
“Why is an organization that claims to represent the interests of Roman Catholic bishops paying dues or lending its name to a group whose mission includes advocating for what the Catholic Church calls ‘intrinsic evils’?” asked Michael Hichborn, American Life League's lead researcher into the USCCB.
