40 Days for Life thanks God as abortion mill closes
Will the Senate health care bill confer quasi-government status on Planned Parenthood?
The Senate version of America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009 may transform the nation’s largest abortion chain into a quasi-governmental entity for sex education.
Section 1803, Subsection C, creates a National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Resource Center, stating:
The Secretary shall award a grant to a nationally recognized, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that meets the requirements described in clause (ii) to establish and operate a national teen pregnancy prevention resource center (in this subparagraph referred to as the ‘Resource Center’) to carry out the purpose and activities described in clause (iii). (emphasis added)
According to the requirements found in clause (ii):
The organization has demonstrated experience working with and providing assistance to a broad range of individuals and entities to reduce teen pregnancy. The organization is research-based and has comprehensive knowledge and data about teen pregnancy prevention strategies.
Section 1803, “Personal Responsibility Education for Adulthood Training” (i.e., sex education), grants at least $250,000 to each state to educate adolescents on "both abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and STDs."
This sounds like a program designed with PP in mind.
This dangerous provision to the Senate health care bill could give PP, already under investigation for tax fraud and concealing child rape, government status and even more influence over our kids.
American Life League’s Michael Hichborn will have a full analysis of this and the many other dangerous provisions included in the health care bill in his upcoming report on America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009.
Chicago public schools spend millions on PP consulting; end up with one in seven female students currently pregnant at Robeson High
Robeson High School in Chicago made headlines recently because of a revelation that one in seven of its female students is currently pregnant. While some media outlets are jumping on the opportunity to blame the high pregnancy rate on the fact that the parents are not doing enough at home and that the school is encouraging pregnancy by helping pregnant teens continue with their education, the blame rightfully belongs at the feet of PP, which has been a high-paid consultant with the Chicago public school system for years.
From February 27, 2001, through August 31, 2004, PP was awarded $1,608,100 in consulting fees by the Chicago public schools on a non-competitive basis, “because of its unique qualifications to provide a teen pregnancy prevention program.” In return, PP was to provide a “Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program” for seventh and ninth graders in 45 Chicago public schools and “special times to access its Title X facilities in which high school students may voluntarily visit PP counselors for support and guidance.” Incredibly, PP was given authority to oversee itself and “assess the program’s efficiency and evaluate participating students’ progress in the program.”
From September 1, 2004, through August 31, 2006, an additional $1,000,000 was awarded to PP for the same “services.” It continued to allow PP to monitor itself and left open the option of renewal for two more time periods.
In 2006, the Illinois Caucus for Adolescent Health (including PP), leading the charge to remove any “abstinence-only” education from Chicago public schools, held a fundraiser at the headquarters of Playboy Enterprises.
The Chicago Board of Education, under the leadership of Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan, adopted a requirement that students in sixth grade and beyond take a comprehensive sex education program beginning in 2007. (Arne Duncan was appointed U.S. Secretary of Education in January of this year.)
According to a 2006 news report from the Chicago Tribune,
The new program... will provide age-appropriate and medically accurate information concerning the emotional, psychological, physiological, hygienic and social responsibility aspects of family life.
The courses will be taught in Grades 6 through 12 and include instruction on how to prevent pregnancy through abstinence and contraception, as well as the emotional and psychological consequences of premarital sex and pregnancy.
The board adopted the policy in response to data showing that half of all city public high school students are sexually active and that 6,000 infants were born to teen parents in Chicago in 2003.
Columbus schools pay PP to compete with abstinence education
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners in Columbus, Ohio, voted unanimously to hire Planned Parenthood of Central Ohio to provide sex ed classes in 19 Columbus middle and high schools. In addition, PP will have access to the teens via provision of “health exams.”
According to a Columbus Dispatch article, “the board had considered other groups for the grant, but Planned Parenthood was the most comprehensive. It uses a curriculum from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
The funding was given to PP despite the fact that Pregnancy Decision Health Centers, which teaches abstinence education, “is in districts throughout Franklin County, including Columbus.”

40 Days for Life thanks God as abortion mill closes
As we reported to you earlier, the PP abortion mill at Kalispel, Montana, is scheduled to close November 20. PP killed preborn babies up to 21.6 weeks gestation at the location.
The 40 Days for Life web site reports that the center was the focus of a 40 Days for Life campaign last spring. This was in addition to ongoing efforts to close the abortuary.
Clinic personnel cited a decline in patient numbers as the reason for the closure.
The local 40 Days for Life Director in Kalispel credits God’s gracious answer to prayers for the closure. “Our heartfelt pleas to God for an end to abortion here in Kalispell are being answered,” she said. “Let us rejoice in our mighty God who has looked down upon us with such great favor.”
